THE LIEBSTAR AWARD

Time to mix it up a bit people!

A few days ago, I found out that Health Room was nominated for the Liebster Blog Award by Jen from Baby Steps To Better Me.

Firstly, big thanks to Jen. It’s pretty cool to be a part of this growing group of bloggers, each sharing their own message. You should all go check her blog out. It’s ace.

Anyway, what is this The Liebster Blog Award I hear you ask? Well to start with it’s not actually an award… Rather, it’s a great way to build community and connect with other bloggers. It sounds a bit like those weird chain mails that used to go around, except you’re not gonna get killed in 7 days if you don’t pass it on…

Here are the rules yo:

  • Acknowledge the nominating blogger
  • Answer 11 questions the nominating blogger has created for you
  • List 11 random facts about yourself
  • List some of your favourite smaller blogs that you really feel deserve a little blogging love!
  • Let all of the bloggers know you have nominated them. You cannot nominate the blogger that nominated you!

So I thought this could be interesting. It’s always great to connect with other bloggers, and I thought it might help bring a bit more variety to the blog and help you readers get to know a little bit more about the person behind the words…

 MY ANSWERS TO JEN’S 11 QUESTIONS

1. What super power would you want if you could have any?

Tough one to start with Jen…

Time control would be pretty cool, but then again that brings with it a bit too much responsibility for my liking. Too many global problems to try to fix, and it would be hard to avoid messing up the whole space-time continuum… I don’t really wanna have to deal with fixing that.

I’ve already got the outfit, so I’d probably go for spidey senses and web shooting. As they say, “With great power comes great...”. Dammit.

2. What’s your favourite fruit?

Ripe bananas are awesome, and go great in any smoothie. I do like me some berries too. It’s gotta be medjool dates though.

3. What’s your favourite exercise?

I love my martial arts. I’m also really enjoying getting back into strength training; focussing on natural movements, gymnastic-like bodyweight exercises, core strength and deadlifting.

I also love climbing, running, football, yoga… Hard to choose one thing in particular. Mix it up and move naturally, nothing gets boring!

4. Where would you live if you could live anywhere?

I’m really happy with where I’m from here in South Wales. Yeah it rains a lot, but I’m lucky to have the mountains and the great people around me.

That being said, I visited Australia a couple of times when I was younger, and that was pretty awesome. Always been fascinated with Thailand too. Thai boxing, fresh fruit, sunshine and beaches… Very tempting.

5. Who/What inspires you most?

The people around me. Seeing my family, friends and loved ones being happy, making changes for the better and enjoying themselves. Having their support and advice is also irreplaceable and keeps me going.

Other than that, I get inspiration from the books I read, the podcasts I listen to, and the other blogs I come across.

And, last but not least – from my own experiences. Most of the time I aim to inspire myself, rather than relying on my external environment to provide it for me. I also think that the best way to have something to say is to go out and do something worth talking about.

6. What makes you laugh?

My lovely girlfriend just being herself.

7. What makes you cry?

Wow, this ones a little deep… Other than the usual stuff, cutting onions gets me quite bad sometimes… And thinking about answering difficult questions can occasionally make me weep…

8. What’s a pet peeve of yours?

Thinking about how confusing the world of health and nutrition is, and how we focus so much on reactive medicine rather than preventative…

But I don’t get too caught up over it. Life’s a game, we can only play it the best we can.

9. What is the most funny/silly/embarrassing thing you’ve said or done?

Sometimes when I’m “just looking” to see if a tree or boulder is climbable, I’ll commit way to early and get stuck in a tricky situation. This has happened way too many times.

10. What is the strangest job you have ever had?

Blogging is pretty strange. I aim to make a living from the ideas in my head. Trippy.

11. Where is the strangest place you have been?

There are a few places in the depths of the Welsh valleys that can’t be unseen… Proceed with caution.

11 TRUTHS ABOUT ME

1. When I was really young, I scared a fair few old ladies whilst out shopping with my mum by hiding amongst the clothes rails and barking like a dog or roaring like a lion…

2. I love martial arts, but a few years ago I had my left arm snapped in half in an amateur MMA competition. It hurt quite a bit, and I don’t recommend it to anyone. But it healed really well without an operation, and gave me time to focus on my school work. Every cloud…

3. I love being outside – up the mountains, by the beach, out the back garden. There’s something pretty humbling about being in nature.

4. I love using this blog to learn new things, and share them with others.

5. I respect most animals, but I’m not a big fan of bats. At all. Devil birds…

6. I struggle with building healthy habits from time to time like everyone else. But I keep working on it.

7. I sometimes like to think I have Jedi powers when approaching automatic doors, and I open then with a subtle movement of my hand. It’s funny because my name’s Luke…

8. I used to run a really secret spy agency with my cousin when we were younger. We used to build dens and go on missions. Even had everything planned out in hidden text documents. It was legit…

9. I’ll never claim to have this nutrition thing completely figured out. I don’t think anyone can, or should. But I do my best with the information available.

10. I’ve always been more comfortable with a handful of people rather than large groups, but I’m working on it.

11. I’m thankful for the past. I’m thoroughly enjoying the present. And I’m excited or the future.
