Simple Berry Crumble Recipe

Desserts typically get a bad rap. Probably because most of them are packed full of things that aren’t that great for you…

Since adopting the plant powered way, I’ve realised that not all treats have to be unhealthy to taste good. Sometimes you can have your cake and eat it too, so to speak. And I reckon our latest Berry Crumble Recipe is evidence enough for that.

It’s packed full of antioxidant rich berries, and topped with a simple mixture of oats and flour. No nonsense, no nasty disease promoting ingredients, and no faffing around in the kitchen for hours.

The crumble is pretty versatile too. You can serve it up as a dessert, or even eat it for breakfast. Go crazy. You make the rules.

As always, if you give it a try, let us know how it goes in the comments section below!

Serves 2

  • A cup of mixed berries (we use a frozen berry mix from Aldi)
  • Half a cup of oats
  • Quarter of a cup of wholemeal flour
  • A few tablespoons maple syrup or agave
  • A little vanilla extract
  • A few crushed walnuts (optional)
  • Extra maple syrup/sugar (optional)
  • Soy yogurt to serve

  1. Preheat the oven to around 200 degrees
  2. Empty your berries into a baking dish. To take the sour edge off, you might want to add a light covering of maple syrup, agave or coconut sugar.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, oats, vanilla extract and ground nuts with enough maple syrup to make a slightly damp mixture.
  4. Cover your berries with the mixture. Don’t worry if there are a few berries sticking through. It’ll be ok.
  5. Bang it in the oven until the top starts to turn a nice toasted, golden colour. Check after about 20 minutes, and then it will probably need another 5-10.
  6. Serve up, either on it’s own, or with a big dollop of soy yoghurt and maple syrup.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by!
