Health podcasts are one of my favourite ways to deepen my understanding of the human experience.
That’s one of the main reasons I decided to set up my own show, The HERO Podcast.
One of the big perks of technology is the ability to download an hour long conversation, throw it onto your mp3 player, and listen to some of the brightest, most innovative people on the planet talk about things that you love.
Rich Roll, Justin Goodheart and many others have gotten me through many a long car journey. I sometimes like to stick a good health podcast on whilst I’m stretching in the morning, or when I’m out on a run. Although there are big benefits to switching off and being mindful of your movement, there’s definitely something to be said for learning on the go.
Here’s a collection of my current favourites, all loosely linked to one or more topics under the health umbrella. From healthy eating and movement, to mindfulness and sustainability (and everything else in between).

Plant-powered ultra-triathlete Rich Roll brings you “the brightest and most forward-thinking, paradigm-busting minds in health, fitness, nutrition, art, entertainment, entrepreneurship & spirituality“.
Rich’s show is a strong contender for my all time favourite health and nutrition podcast. It really has changed my life in so many ways and altered the way I see the world.
Through the art of long form conversation, Rich’s goal is to help you unlock, uncover and unleash your best, most authentic self. And he does a great job of it.

2. No Meat Athlete Radio
Matt Frazier is the mastermind behind the awesome blog No Meat Athlete. (I published a guest post there a few months ago on transitioning to a plant based diet if you wanna check that out).
Along with his co-host Doug Hay, Matt shares a healthy dose of non-preachy info and inspiration for vegetarian and vegan athletes, as well as a load of great content relating to habit forming.
3. Food For Thought
Each episode addresses common questions and myths with regards to being vegan, including those centred around nutrition, animal rights, environmentalism and more. Colleen comes with a level headed, non-judgemental approach, which is always nice to hear.
Great for herbivores and omnivores alike.
4. Main Street Vegan
It’s promoted as a health podcast that shares vegan living ideas for the everyday person, not just the elite or those that can pay.
It’s for anyone who wants to feel great, eat delicious food, reduce their environmental impact, and embark on spiritual growth.

5. Realize Yourself
Realize Yourself is the show from nutritionist and best-selling author Kimberly Snyder. She chats with her good friend Tony about all things healthy – including diet, spirituality, emotional health and empowerment.
I really like how Kimberly delivers her ideas in a kind, non-judgemental approach – it makes for some nice, easy listening.
A great nutrition podcast for anyone who wants to eat healthier and live more mindfully.

7. Ben Greenfield Fitness
Ben is regarded as one of the leading experts in the health and fitness industry, and for good reason.
When I listen to Ben wax poetically about myelin pathways and the efficacy of the latest biohacking tool, I start to feel a little inadequate about my own knowledge with regards to this whole health thing… He knows his stuff, that’s for sure, and he lives it too.
If you’re all about wellness, weight loss, lifestyle design, and testing the limits of human performance, then definitely give it a listen sometime. Entertaining stuff.
8. MindPump: Raw Fitness Truth
There’s a lot of nonsense in the fitness industry, and honestly, from first glance I thought MindPump might be more of the same.
But I could’t have been more wrong…
Sal, Adam, Justin and Doug are a breath of fresh air, dispelling common fitness myths and making you laugh your ass off whilst they’re at it.
As well as providing a plethora of info for anyone looking to live healthily or get in shape, I’ve also found MindPump really useful as a PT in training. The guys have more than 40 years worth of experience in the industry, and are more than happy to share their best tips for becoming a successful fitness professional.
9. The Move Smart Podcast
One of my favourite movement and fitness podcasts. I’ve learned so much over the past few month from this guy. He’s helped me re-evaluate my relationship with movement, and I’ve become much more in tune with my body.
Justin Goodheart converses with some of the most influential thought leaders in the industry, providing world-class tips on movement, mobility, parkour, martial arts, nutrition, mindfulness, and everything in between.
The podcast slogan is:
“Be healthy to be strong, be strong to be useful, and live long to maximize that usefulness. Because the longer and stronger you are able to pursue your higher purpose, the better every single person on the planet will become”.

9. Zen and the Art of Triathlon
It’s one of the most popular fitness podcasts on iTunes, and is all about helping you to incorporate the principles of Zen to your life via triathlon and endurance training.
Whether you’re just looking to become a casual weekend-warrior triathlete or qualify for the Kona World Championships, it really is a must listen.

10. Fitness Skills by GMB
Along with The Move Smart Podcast, it’s had a massive impact on my movement and mobility practice over the past few months. Some really interesting discussions and great interviews with some of the leaders in the fitness and movement community. They’re also just really funny guys.
Great for anyone who wants to really delve into the details of movement and fitness and form a good gymnastics base.

11. Take it Uneasy
They dive deep into the topics of movement, mindset, learning, and challenging yourself both on and off the mat.
It’s definitely a great listen for any grapplers or martial artist, and anyone who just wants to learn how to move a bit better.
12. The Primal Blueprint
Some great guests, and great info.
But hey, isn’t Mark a paleo guy, and don’t you promote a plant based diet?
Sure, but I agree with Mark a lot more than I disagree. And if we decided to completely disregard people based on one slight difference in opinion, then we wouldn’t really get anywhere or learn anything. So there!
13. Katy Says
Katy Bowman might feel a tad offended with her show being categorized as a fitness podcast, but she has a good sense of humour so I’m guessing she’d just roll with it….
Much more than a simple fitness buff, Katy’s a best selling author, biomechanist, and connoisseur of natural movement.
One her podcast she provides light-hearted discussions on body mechanics and movement nutrition, showing how movement can so often be the solution to the modern ailments we all experience.

14. Obstacle Dominator
Experienced pros Hunter McIntyre and Ben Greenfield answer your questions and give you all a whole load of training, nutrition, recovery and racing tips to help you get the most out of your next extreme adventure run.
Great stuff, and one of the most entertaining fitness podcasts you’ll stumble upon.
15. Barbell Shrugged
Whether you’re into Crossfit, gymnastic, mobility or simply becoming a more well-rounded human being, twice a week the Barbell Shrugged guys bring you some of the most influential minds in the business.
Episodes are also recorded and available in video format, which makes a nice added twist.
16. The Industrial Strength Show
As well as running the world-renowned DeFranco’s Gym at the Onnit Training Academy, Joe also hosts the Industrial Strength Show, where he shares his top training and performance tips on a weekly basis.
If you’re looking to become a better athlete, it’s well worth checking out.
17. Trail Runner Nation
They offer a range of tips on race nutrition, recovery, pacing strategy, and mental focus, bringing you some of the top trail running athletes, coaches and members of the community.
I’ve only just started listening to this one, but I’m enjoying it so far and have taken away quite a few useful tips already (particularly with regards to running cadence).

18. Radio Headspace
It’s no secret that I’m a fan of using a good guided meditation to start the day. It really has helped reduce my stress levels, increase my productivity, and improve my general happiness.
One of my favourites is Headspace, the app created by Rich Pierson and former monk/circus performer Andy Puddicombe. As well as an awesome app, Headspace recently added a mindfulness podcast, hosted by TV presenter and Headspace content producer Georgie Okell.
As you’d expect, it’s all about living a little more mindfully in the modern world. And it’s great.

19. The 5am Miracle
The goal of the show is to “help you bounce out of bed with enthusiasm, create powerful lifelong habits, and tackle your grandest goals with extraordinary energy”. Sounds pretty cool right?
Jeff provides some really great content and chats to some fascinating guests.
20. Tara Brach Podcast
Tara is a teacher of meditation, emotional healing and spiritual healing.
On her podcast she shares free guided meditations and weekly talks on Buddhist teachings and practices.
Well worth a listen if you’re looking to cut your stress levels and live more mindfully – and aren;t we all to some extent?
21. 10 PERCENT Happier With Dan Harris
I first stumbled upon Dan Harris and his story when he appeared on Rich Roll’s show.
In his new podcast, Dan takes listeners on a weekly ride from the “outer reaches of neuroscience to the inner sanctum of network news”. It’s a great introduction to mindfulness for the everyman.
A fascinating listen.

22. The Minimalists
A minimalist life is often a simpler, more fulfilling one.
On the Minimalists Podcast, best friends Joshua Fields Millburn & Ryan Nicodemus discuss living a meaningful life with less stuff.
It’s all about cutting away the fat and figuring out what truly matters in life.

23. The Joe Rogan Experience
I remember dialling in to his conversation with notorious MMA villain Chael Sonnen whilst on the train home from uni a few summer’s ago, and I was hooked straight away.
The stand up comedian and UFC colour commentator goes deep with a wide range of guests, many of which come from the health and wellness world. Others are just plain old entertaining.
Definitely worth checking out.

24. ReWild Yourself
ReWild Yourself has a slightly different feel to it than some of the other health and fitness podcasts I’ve already mentioned. It’s all about “helping you transcend human domestication, allowing you to uncover your true potential”.
Daniel Vitalis brings in a wide range of interesting guests with the aim of helping you reconnect with that wild, sovereign nature that’s lying deep within.
If you’ve ever felt like the way we live in the modern world isn’t natural and you’re looking for ways to break free, it’s definitely worth a listen.
25. London Real
Hosted by former investment banker Brian Rose, London Real is a weekly lifestyle podcast that brings you an inside look into the lives of some of the most successful people on the planet. From freerunners and athletes to scientists and CEO’s.
Through fascinating conversations, it’s all about showing you how you can take your health, wealth, and relationships to the next level.
Professionally shot video recordings are also available, if that floats your boat.

26. The Tim Ferriss Show
The blogger, self-experimenter and bestselling author is most well known for his books The Four Hour Workweek and The Four Hour Body.
In addition, his podcast is one of the most listened to on iTunes, and often tops the business category listing (although it’s about much much more than that).
In his own words, on the show Tim “deconstructs world-class performers from eclectic areas (investing, sports, business, art, etc) to extract the tactics and tricks you can use”.
And he does a damn good job of it.
27. The Unbeatable Mind Podcast
Ex Navy SEAL Commander and creator of the Seal Fit system Mark Divine brings a variety of guests to explore the “5 mountain training path” of developing your Mental, Physical, Emotional, Intuitive, and Heart self.
His podcast is all about challenging yourself, and forming daily practices that elevate you and help you become a stronger version of yourself.
Entertaining, informative, and hard hitting.
28. Off Camera
Hosted by multitalented photographer and director Sam Jones, the show brings you long form conversations with some of the world’s greatest. Leading artists, actors, musicians, directors, skateboarders, photographers, writers and everyone in between.
Strictly speaking, Off Camera may not be a health podcast. But learning lessons from some of the most successful people in the world can no doubt help you become a little healthier, and unlock your potential.

For those times when you wanna get a little nerdy…
The Ted Health Podcast brings you talks from some of the top doctors and researchers around the world, who share their latest findings in health, fitness and medicine.
All in video format, so listening on the move is more of a struggle. But it’s definitely worth checking out if you wanna keep up to date with the latest wellness breakthroughs.
